Singer Katie Melua for Georgian Red Cross Society

Popular Georgian singer Katie Melua will team up with the Georgian Red Cross Society to lead a charity concert featuring performances of songs requested by her social media followers on Saturday.
Melua, who will host the show along with the GRCS on YouTube, told her fans she wanted to contribute to ongoing efforts by the organisation against the pandemic, and honour their work so far.
To be broadcast live on Saturday, the YouTube show will raise awareness for the GRCS and let the many fans of the musical artist hear their favourite songs from her. Melua also shared information about the scope of the work by the national branch of the organisation, letting her listeners know about the “leading humanitarian actor in Georgia is at the forefront of the humanitarian response” to the pandemic.
The GRCS have been delivering food and parcels across Georgia during the lockdown, with over 50,000 elder people living alone receiving their help. The organisation is also involved in rapid testing, and provision of special care to over 1,000 beneficiaries, among other activities.
Melua has also been involved in performances offered for the audiences during the lockdown, including a collaboration with award-winning violinist Lisa Batiashvili for a video released on social media along with a slideshow of photographs sent in by listeners in advance.
