Demna Gvasalia’s extraordinary collection

Famous Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia has recently showcased his latest collection at Paris Fashion Week. The creative director of Vetements & Balenciaga represented the Vetements Fall/Winter 2019 at the Grand Gallery of Evolution. The hall of the gallery is full of taxidermy zebras, giraffes, rhinos, gazelles, and monkeys. The idea apparently came to Gvasalia when he was eating pizza and watching Night at the Museum with friends. “It’s full of dinosaurs and stuffed giraffes… What I was trying to express in this collection was the ‘next step’ in evolution.” The evolution, in that case, was technological as the collection was inspired by the Internet.
“We got some people to show us the darknet, which is kind of the backstage of what we know as the internet. That was our starting point, like, how far can you go?”
“Then as we got more into our research we kind of realized that geeks have really become the new punks. They’re changing the world! With the smartphone for example. So this was my tribute to what these new punks and grunge kids are doing today.”The most striking features of the collection were loose jackets, puffers, flowing pants, and chunky knitwear, inscriptions or logos on shirts, hoodies, hefty leather boots, big backpacks, green hair and etc. “I survived swine flu so now I am vegan”- it is an inscription found on one of the shirts of his collection. The inscription attracted considerable attention of many Georgians as this winter Georgians have been suffered from the flu.
